Quotator is focused and deliberate — here's everything it does.
Quote text is required. Author is optional — leave it blank and no author line appears anywhere in the app or widget.
The search bar is always visible at the top of My Quotes. It filters by quote text and author simultaneously in real time, and works together with the category chips.
The order of your library is the rotation order in Sequential mode. Tap Edit and drag the handles to set exactly the sequence you want — in All Quotes or inside a single category. Search results can't be reordered.
Swipe right to disable a quote. It stays in your library but is excluded from widget rotation until you re-enable it.
Quotator warns you before saving a quote with text that already exists in your library.
Organize quotes into user-created categories. Filter your library by category using the chips at the top of the list.
Share one quote as text, as an image, or as a Quotator file that keeps its formatting, from your library or straight from a widget.
Sends the quote followed by "— author". If you show the author above the quote, the text follows that order, with no dash. Choose any app in the iOS share sheet.
Sends a square picture of the quote card in its resolved style — your font, your colors, your alignment — sized for sharing or saving to Photos.
Sends one quote as a .quotator file. When your friend opens it in Quotator they see the quote in your font and colors, pick a category, and tap Add. Nothing is saved until they do, a quote they already have shows "Already in your library", and a damaged file just shows an alert. (To send a whole collection, use Export Quote Set below.)
Tap a Rotating Quote or Specific Quote widget and that quote opens in a card over the app, with the share buttons underneath. Close it with the ✕ or swipe down to return to where you were. Prefer a tap to simply open the app? Turn off Open Share Card on Tap in Settings → Widget Behavior.
Style your quotes with full control — or let defaults handle it so consistent quotes stay consistent without touching each one.
A live preview card in the edit screen shows exactly how the quote will look in Small, Medium and Large widget sizes — with a Light/Dark toggle when Light/Dark Mode Colors is on.
Shows a new quote on your chosen schedule. Configure each widget independently by long-pressing → Edit Widget:
Always shows exactly one quote you choose during widget setup. The quote never changes unless you edit the widget. Perfect for a daily mantra or a favourite you want to see every day.
Both widget types come in:
Cycles through all enabled quotes in the order shown in your library. You control the sequence by dragging to reorder. The Previous arrow steps back one quote.
Picks a different quote each interval using a deterministic per-slot algorithm — the same widget always shows the same quote at any given time, even across device restarts. The Previous arrow walks back through the last 10 quotes shown.
Pins one specific quote you choose. Nothing changes until you update it in Settings. Useful when you want to focus on one quote for as long as it feels right.
Assign a quote category and rotation mode to each iOS Focus mode. Quotator switches automatically when you enter Work, Sleep, or any custom Focus.
Export a named set of quotes — with all formatting — as a .json file. Share it via AirDrop, Messages, or Files. Anyone can import it in one tap.
Automatic daily backup to your personal iCloud Drive. Manual backup and restore also available. Keeps the 10 most recent backups.
Import quotes from any spreadsheet app using a simple 3-column CSV format (text, author, category). Export your library to CSV at any time.
The default widget filter can include multiple categories at once — mix "Morning" and "Work" quotes into one rotating pool.
New to the app? Tap "Load Sample Quotes" on the empty library screen to start with 21 styled example quotes. Edit or delete them as you like.
Optional arrows in the bottom corners of the Rotating Quote widget: tap the right arrow to advance now, the left arrow to go back. Turn them on or off in Settings → Widget Behavior. Hidden when the widget is pinned to one quote (Manual mode).
Give your widgets one set of colors in Light Mode and another in Dark Mode — as the app-wide default, per category, or per quote. The most specific setting wins. Off by default.
Show the author at the top of the widget with the quote below it. Set it app-wide in Default Formatting, or per category. The most specific setting wins.
Dark and tinted app icons (iOS 18 and later) match your Home Screen style. A "Your Widgets" summary shows how many of each widget you have placed, a notice appears when Low Power Mode may delay rotation, and an About section links to the website and support.
